Said Joins Global Network for Advanced Management
University of Oxford’s Saïd Business School has joined the Global Network for Advanced Management, a project that promotes collaboration among leading international business schools. Saïd received unanimous approval to become the Global Network’s 29th member overall.
Part of Saïd’s motivation for joining the Global Network is shoring up its international standing in the wake of June’s Brexit vote.
Peter Tufano, Saïd’s dean, underscored the school’s renewed commitment to an international point of view in light of recent political events: “In an increasingly uncertain world and one in which politics is accentuating national boundaries, it is vital to maintain a global perspective.”
Saïd’s addition to the Global Network will allow students to participate in collaborative initiatives with other member schools.
For example, one highlight of the Global Network is the Global Network Weeks, during which students travel to complete weeklong courses at schools that are part of the Network. The Global Network also organizes online courses that students from partner schools can attend virtually.
Tufano praised the Global Network, calling it a “brilliant initiative to share knowledge and learning across borders and institutions.” He said that “all great institutions—even Oxford—benefit by working with others” since “solving the world’s most complex global problems requires multiple perspectives.”
Deans from other member schools echoed Tufano’s comments and welcomed Saïd into the Network.
Haas School of Business dean Richard Lyons pointed out that “there is no single school or program that can offer its students such a wide array of quality educational content or access to peers and faculty across so many countries.”
Meanwhile, HEC Paris dean Peter Todd commented that Saïd’s addition to the Network “brings tremendous intellectual resources” and said he expected it to “strengthen the network and increase what each member school can accomplish.”
Saïd becomes the eighth European school to join the Global Network and the second UK school. The Department of Management at the London School of Economics and Political Science was the first UK program to join the Network.
Saïd itself is already a highly international school. Ninety-four percent of its Class of 2017 is from outside the UK, representing a total of 58 countries. Thirteen percent of its academic staff are EU nationals, which has raised some concerns in the months following the Brexit referendum.
By joining the Global Network, the school is reaffirming its commitment to keeping an international perspective by starting new collaborations with schools around the globe. For more information, see the Global Network for Advanced Management website.
