Yale SOM Launches Dual Master’s Degree With Four Other Schools

Posted by Chioma Isiadinso

Yale School of Management has announced a new dual master’s degree, created in partnership with four other global business schools. Students participating in the program will receive a master’s degree from one of the partner schools after their first year of study, then receive a second degree from Yale.

The second degree is Yale’s Master of Management Studies in Global Business and Society. As the name suggests, the program has an international bent.

The four partner schools where students can earn their first master’s degree are all members of the Global Network for Advanced Management. These schools are:

The dual-degree program, which Yale is calling “M2M,” involves first earning a Master in Management (MiM) from one of the four partner schools, then earning the second master’s degree from Yale. Alternatively, students can earn a second degree from FGV or HKUST.

Although the Yale degree is designed to follow one of the four paired MiM degrees, Yale SOM will also accept some students with MiMs from other Global Network institutions.

Yale emphasizes that when students complete the program, they will be alumni of both schools, with access to all the resources that entails.

Given the program’s international emphasis, Yale SOM says they are looking for students who are “globally minded, intellectually curious, and ready to launch their career with a year at Yale.” They expect that candidates will have between 3 months and 3 years of work experience.

While Yale SOM requires that applicants have some full-time work experience, the program is designed for those with less work experience than typical MBA applicants. Yale points out that the 3 months minimum of work experience could be from a summer internship.

David Bach, Yale SOM’s deputy dean, said the program provides students with flexibility to make their own decisions.

“Whatever pathway students choose, young leaders who are interested in having impact throughout their careers will quickly develop skills that set them apart in the global marketplace, while building a deep network of like-minded peers around the world.”

Peter Todd, the dean of HEC Paris, commented that “this offer meets the demand of growing numbers of extremely talented and globally mobile students who target prestigious double degree programs as passports for international careers.”
